Do I need nonprofit experience to join or lead a Ring?
Not at all. The Operations Guide walks you through everything. Afterall, you’re not starting or running a nonprofit, Cigar Rings is simply a way to gather likeminded individuals to make a greater impact in the world…around enjoying quality cigars. Plus, Cigar Rings headquarters staff is there to help you along the way.

Are contributions tax-deductible?
All contributions flow through Charitable Giving Alliance, a registered nonprofit, making them fully tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

What if our Ring can’t agree on a cause?
The Operations Guide includes facilitation tools and voting procedures to help you reach decisions democratically. Part of the beauty of Rings is the discussion process itself, often over a quality smoke.

Can a Ring change focus over time?
Absolutely. Your Ring decides annually where to give. You might support veterans one year and education the next. If your Ring is based on a specific charitable focus, before you change please connect with Cigar Rings International headquarters.

What if our Ring grows beyond our founding vision?
Growth is success! The structure scales beautifully, and the Operations Guide includes guidance on managing larger Rings.

What if I move or my circumstances change?
Rings continue beyond any single member. New leadership can step up, ensuring your Ring’s legacy continues. Rings may provide for virtual participation, so you can continue your engagement from anywhere in the world.

Can I join more than one Ring?
Absolutely! Cigar Rings members are welcome to participate in more than one Ring. For example, you might join:

  • A local geographic Ring to support your immediate community
  • A Ring organized around your favorite cigar brand to deepen those relationships
  • A Ring focused on a specific cause you’re passionate about (veterans, education, healthcare)
  • An online Ring built around a YouTube channel or forum you follow

Each Ring operates independently with its own focus, contribution requirements, and membership. Your participation in one doesn’t limit your involvement in others—it only multiplies your impact as you make your contributions to each Ring.

If I’m want to start a new Ring, what kind of time commitment should I expect?
Starting a Ring requires initiative, but not an overwhelming time investment:

  • Pre-Launch: 3-5 hours working with founding members to define your Ring’s identity and complete the application
  • Ongoing: 1-2 hours of coordination per meeting (at least annually, more if you choose)
  • Optional: Additional time engaging in your Ring’s online community, which you may find to be rewarding

Remember: this is volunteer leadership. You’re never alone—your founding members share the responsibilities, and Cigar Rings International is there to make things clear and easier.

How does Cigar Rings International make a profit?
First, as a program of the Charitable Giving Alliance, Cigar Rings International is part of a non-profit, so there isn’t a profit. To cover operational costs, the annual contribution amount for each Ring member is shared with CRI. The allocation ($7.50 per month, per member) is deducted from the annual giving pool for each ring. All gifts above the allocation amount is available to the Ring for its charitable giving.
